Digital Divide is a term used to reference to the gap between people with efficient access to digital and information technology and those with extremely limited or no access at all. It takes into consideration having physical technology, as well as their ability to participate as a digital citizen.
The digital divide is closely related to the knowledge divide, as a lack of technology will lead a lack of useful information and knowledge. There are many factors that have helped create a digital divide amongst society, some of which is easier to solve then others. The most apparent causes are poverty and geographical location. In areas of high poverty, where there is a very minimal income, it would make purchasing a computer along with an internet service subscription even more difficult.
